Lime ( Citrus aurantifolia )

Extraction is by steam distillation of the peel of the fruit

Odour - fresh, sweet, citrus-peel

History - often used indiscriminately in place of lemon. Ships carrying limes were often called 'lime juicers', and limes were used to prevent scurvy.

Uses - refreshing and uplifting, ideal for fatigue and a tired mind. Stimulating and activating especially for apathy, anxiety and depression. Considered a digestive stimulant. Has disinfectant properties making it useful for sore throats and 'flu. Astringent and toning it helps to clear and refresh oily congested skin.

Blends with - bergamot, cedarwood, geranium, lavender, palmarosa, petitgrain, rose, rosemary, rosewood, vetiver, ylang-ylang and other citrus oils.

Safety - non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitising. Expressed oil is phototoxic.
