Myrrh ( Commiophora myrrah )

Myrrh; Commiphora myrrha

Extraction is by steam distillation of the oleoresin

Odour - warm, rich spicy balsamic

History - known to ancient civilisations and used as a perfume, incense and in medicine.  Valued as a healing ointment by Roman soldiers. Given the the Christ child by the Maggi.

Uses - its antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory properties make it usefulfor wounds that are slow to heal, for weepy skin conditions, cracked chapped skin on heels and as a heavy-duty handcream. Its anti-fungal properties make it useful for athlete's foot. An expectorant, it has been used for coughs,bronchitis, colds and conditions involving excessive, thick mucous, when it helps expell the mucous and soothes the membranes. It is good for the gums, healing mouth ulcers and gum disorders.  Can be used as an aid to meditation and is helpful for stuck emotionally
or spiritually, it imparts deep tranquillity of mind. 

Blends with frankincense, lavender, palmarosa, patchouli, rose, rosewood,
sandalwood, tea tree, thyme.

Safety - non-irritant, non-sensitising, possibly toxic in high concentrations.
