Bay ( Pimento racemosa )

Extracted by steam distillation of the dried leaves.

History - used by the ancient Greeks and Romans to crown their victors.
Thought, in the middle ages, to protect against evil and it is still tradition to plant

a tree by the door of the house. Long used in soups and sauces a an aid to digestion as it increases saliva.

Odour - Sweet, spicy, medicinal.

Uses - antiseptic for the respiratory system.  Useful as an appetite stimulant, it also has a tonic effect on the liver and kidneys. Mentally and emotionally it promotes confidence, insight and courage when used in a vaporiser. A tonic for hair and scalp; recommended for hair loss, greasy hair or flaky scalp, with rosemary.

Blends well with - bergamot, cedarwood, lavender, lemon, orange, patchouli, rosemary.

Safety - relatively non-toxic, non-irritant.
