Frankincense ( Boswellia thurifera )
Extraction is by steam distillation of the natural oleo gum resin.
Odour - warm, woody, sweet balsamic, spicy fragrance with a hint of lemon.
History - one of the three gifts from the Magi to baby Jesus. Used as an incense since antiquity.
Uses - slows the breathing and produces a feeling of calm. Helpful in treating asthma, bronchitis, cararrh, coughs, lahynigitis. its ability to encourage growth of skin cells make it an ideal oil for mature, wrinkled skin and its astringent properties may help balance oily skin conditions. Used in a vapouriser during meditation it slows and deepens the breathing and expands the consciousness. It alleviates overthinking and is helpful for depression and negativity. A traditional funeral herb it helps with grieving and coming to terms with the past.
Blends with - bergamot, cypress, geranium, jasmine, lavender, lemon, myrrh, neroli, rose, sandalwood, vetiver and ylang-ylang.
